HCS-D Certification and Recertification Exam Registration Information
Separate Registration Required
Attendees who want to test for the Home Care Coding Specialist-Diagnosis certification exam or recertification exam will have an opportunity to sit for the test Thursday, September 11, 2008. Attendees must register separately with the Board of Medical Specialty Coding prior to taking the exam. The registration fee for the exam is $249 and recertification is $129. The fee is set by the BMSC and must be paid in advance and sent directly to BMSC. The HCS-D tests the intersection of coding, billing and PPS and it is strongly recommended that a test-taker have at least two years of coding experience before sitting for the exam. Changes in Education Hour Requirements
A first-time administrator and alternate administrator of an agency must each complete a total of 24 clock hours of educational training in the administration of an agency before the end of the first 12 months after designation to the position.
The first day of this conference covers the requirements that prior to designation, a first-time administrator or alternate administrator must complete eight clock hours of educational training in the administration of an agency. The initial eight clock hours must be completed during the first 12 months immediately preceding the date of designation to the position. A first-time administrator and alternate must complete an additional 16 clock hours of educational training before the end of the first 12 months after designation to the position. Any of the additional 16 hours may be completed prior to designation if completed during the 12 months immediately proceeding the date of designation to the position. The second and third day of this conference fulfill 12 of these additional 16 hours.
