This workshop is designed for home health clinicians and professionals desiring to elevate their coding skills to a higher level. Appropriate coding has a tremendous impact on reimbursement, therefore attendees will learn during the first two days of this course how to apply coding rules and conventions for correct home health coding. The HCS-D Examination will be offered on the third day for those interested in testing their coding knowledge and skills. This workshop will be a perfect opportunity for individuals that are already HCS-D certified to obtain coding CE and retest if needed.
*Attendees who want to test for the Home Care Coding Specialist-Diagnosis certification exam or recertification exam will have an opportunity to sit for the test September 23, 2010. Attendees must register separately with the Board of Medical Specialty Coding (BMSC) prior to taking the exam (see form below). The registration fee for the exam is $249 and recertification is $129. The fee is set by the BMSC and must be paid in advance and sent directly to BMSC. The HCS-D tests the intersection of coding, billing and PPS and it is strongly recommended that a test-taker have at least two years of coding experience before sitting for the exam. The home health Registered Nurse and other clinicians will be given important information regarding the importance of home health billing for Medicare, and the importance of knowing what type of bill to submit for different patient scenarios. These attendees will also be educated in the process of billing episode payments and will learn how to review the status of claims submitted and how to make corrections of claims. Attendees will also gain a working knowledge of how to use the DDE system for various billing needs. Attendees will be able to cancel and adjust claims with the proper coding system and will learn how to check the HIQH, check history, and claims status within the DDE system. Attendees will also learn what menus and sub-menus to use in the DDE system for various billing functions, will learn to read each screen and understand the sue of and need for the different screens within the DDE system.
