ICD-10 Coding

This workshop is designed for the Registered Nurse in the home health industry who has a basic understanding of the ICD-9 coding classification system but do not have an understanding of the ICD-10 classification system. Knowledge of the ICD-10 coding classification system is essential to surviving in the home health industry with changing regulations. Attendees will be given the tools to identify major differences between ICD-9 and ICD-10 code structure, manual structure, coding guidelines and conventions. This will be a moderately paced class full of information that will give coders the ability to advance their coding skills in the ICD-10 coding system.

Objectives:
1. Discuss history of ICD-9-CM
2. Explain purpose of ICD-10-CM
3. Analyze ICD-10-CM code structure
4. Contrast differences between ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM
5. Explain differences in official guidelines
6. Discuss differences in coding manual structure
7. Discuss diagnosis specific examples
8. Discuss importance of preparation
9. Identify impact on home health industry

Requirements for Successful Completion of Activity the participant must:

  • Sign-in on the attendance sheet, be present for the entire activity
  • Complete and submit the activity evaluation  
  • Complete and submit Certificate of Successful Completion

The Board of Medical Specialty Coding & Compliance (BMSC) has pre-approved this coding event for 6 CEUs towards the maintenance of the HCS-D credential.
